Express Entry Canada: How to Migrate to Canada Through Express Entry

Express Entry Canada

Express Entry was launched by the Canadian Government on January 1, 2015, as an easy way to decide on skilled immigrants as Permanent Residents to Canada based on the ability to stay in Canada successfully.

Express Entry is employed to handle applications for Permanent Residence under three federal economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program

Provinces and territories may also recruit candidates from the Express Entry system through their Provincial Nominee Programs to generally meet local labour market needs.

Step 1 – Potential Candidates must complete an Online Express Entry Profile

Step 2 – The highest-ranking candidates in the pool is going to be invited to apply for Permanent Residence

Express Entry Candidates are going to be ranked against others in the pool employing a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System. Points are awarded using the info inside their profile.

Candidates with the greatest scores in the pool are going to be issued an Invitation to Apply. Candidates are going to be awarded points for:

  • a job offer, with or without LMIA, or
  • skills and experience factors.

A candidate could possibly get additional points for:

  • a nomination with a province or territory, or
  • a Canadian degree, diploma, or certificate

A candidate could possibly get further additional points for:

  • having strong French language skills, with increased additional points likely to candidates who also provide English language skills, or
  • having relatives in Canada

These additional points can make a candidate rank high enough to be invited to apply at another eligible round of invitations.

When someone is invited to apply, they'll have 60 days to submit an online application for Permanent Residence.

IRCC will process many complete applications (meaning, those with the necessary supporting documents) in half a year or less.

Candidates can stay static in the pool for 12 months. If they cannot get an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence within 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, they could submit a brand new profile. When they still meet the criteria, they are able to re-enter the pool. This may prevent backlogs and ensure quick processing times.
